everyone for all the "goodies" brought to the meeting.

Karen gave the Treasurer's report in Bonnie's abscence. The balance
of our account now stands at $824.87 as of 11/13/07. We now have 71
paid members.

Charity Project: Cyndi made cute baby hats. Evelyn made three baby
blankets, three baby hats, and 6 sets of booties.

Again, Marie asked that anyone putting an article in the next
newsletter to get it in by November 23rd. The newsletter will be
mailed out by the first week of December.

Karen reminded everyone that the 4th Tuesday of each month of knitting
will no longer be held at the church but the location will now be
changed to Barnes and Noble in Crystal Lake.

Also, our December meeting on December 11th will be our holiday party
and election of all officers and board members.

Our project tonight was making a Santa ornament and was taught by Helga.

Karen passed out to each member a nominating sheet for the upcoming
election of our 2008 Officers and Five Board Members.

October

Karen started the meeting at 7:10 p.m. by welcoming visitors for the
evening. We had three new visitors, Carol from Mundelein, Kathy from
Huntley, and Robin from Cary.

Bonnie gave us her Treasurer's report. As of 10/09/07 we have a total
of $1155.69 in our account and have a total of 70 paid members.

Karen led a discussion regarding the low turn-outs for the last two
charity nights. It was decided to drop the charity nights for now.

Karen, also brought up the fact that there has been extremely low
attendance at the Knit and Chat held at the church on the 4th Tuesday
of the month. After some discussion it was agreed upon to go back to
Barnes & Noble Cafe in Crystal Lake for the Knit and Chat (7-9 p.m.) on the
4th Tuesday of every month instead of at the church.

The New Member Coffee, held at Panera Bread in Crystal Lake was a
great success and fun for all!

The Knit Out held Sunday, Oct.7th, at the Crystal Lake Library was
attended by 10-12 members of Cultured Purls. There was a good
attendance for people wanting to learn how to knit. Again, thanks to
Crystal Lake Library for letting us hold the Knit Out there!

Don't forget to get your items e-mailed to Marie A.S.A.P. She will be
getting the newsletter out in late November or early December.

We had 20 baby hats and three baby sweaters donated to us by
Susan/Charity Knit Group. Also, one pink baby hat knitted by Janet.

Sunday, Oct. 14th is Yarn Con. It is sponsored by the Windy City
Guild and it will be held at the Pulaski Field House in Chicago.
Admission is $3/per person. It is located near Milwaukee and Division.

Tuesday, Oct. 16th is our Board Meeting. It will be held at Barnes &
Noble in Crystal Lake.

Friday, Oct.26th to Sun. Oct.28 is our Knitting Retreat in Galena, Il.
We will be staying at the Chestnut Mt. Resort. We will be visiting
Fiber Wild Knitting Store on Main St. They are providing donuts and
coffee plus discounts on their yarn. We have a hospitality room on the
same floor as all our members are on so it should be ALOT of FUN!! If
you haven't signed up for the retreat do so A.S.A.P. We now have about
15 ladies going.

Tuesday, Nov. 13th is our next regular meeting. It is also the meeting
for nominating officers for 2008. If you would like to run for the
Board or one of the Officer's positions or nominate someone else
please do so at this meeting.

Also, at this meeting Helga has kindly
volunteered to teach us how to make Santa Claus Ornaments. You will
need 4-5 colors of yarn in the same weight of yarn. More info on this
will be coming.

If you would like to participate, Helga and Catherine will be leading
a class at Crystal Lake South High School at 8:15 a.m. on Nov.
14th (Wed.) teaching how to knit. If you need any more info on this
class please e-mail Helga.

Please put your chairs and tables away at
the end of each meeting. This is greatly appreciated by the few people
that are left at the end of the meeting who have had to do this time
and time again.

April

The meeting started at 7:14 p.m. Karen H presided.

Attendance: The meeting was attended by 29 members and one visitor, Barb F, who joined Tuesday.

Treasurer’s Report
• Bonnie was absent, so no balance was reported.
• Currently we have a paid membership of 62.

Charity knitting
• Nan donated a baby hat.
• The Charity Knitting night last month was poorly attended. Peggy, Nan and Mary Joan came, but did not see each other and left without knitting. It was suggested to hold future Charity Knitting nights in Crystal Lake so it is more centrally located for members.

Events Since the Last Meeting
• Patti attended the Yarn Harlot’s book signing in Oak Brook.
• Lisa, Mary and Helga attended the Fiber Jubilee at Tall Grass Farm.

Upcoming Events: Karen announced some upcoming events.
• Stephenson County Fiber Fair on April 21.
• Board meeting April 17.
• Midwest Fiber and Folk Art Fair, July 20–22 in Crystal Lake. Andrea is chairing the Guild’s involvement. Marie is co-chair. A sign-up sheet to work at the fair was passed around to give the Guild a fund-raising opportunity.
• Stitches Midwest will be held in Rosemont in August.
• The Guild Knitting Retreat will be October 26–28 in Galena.

Yarn Auction: Instead of a group instruction, the Guild will host a yarn auction at the May meeting. Members may sell books or yarn. The yarn should be bagged and tagged with the seller’s name. Sellers may put a minimum bid on yarn. Kathleen offered to pick up the yarn or it can be brought in early to the May meeting so that it can be organized.

Fourth Tuesday Meeting Announcement: Pat asked that if she is unable to stay at the church for the fourth Tuesday meeting that the last people there call her and wait for her to lock up the building. The building cannot be left unattended and unlocked.

Newsletter: The deadline for submissions to the next newsletter is May 23. The newsletter will be mailed to members in the first week of June.

Show and Share: Karen presided as members showed off finished (and almost finished) projects.

1 Baby Hat knitted by Angela
1 Baby Hat & Bootie set by Peggy
6 Baby Hat & Bootie sets by Evelyn

Thank you for all your hard work-it will truly be appreciated!!

Our newsletter just was mailed to all our paid members. As usual, Marie did a wonderful job in getting it out. If any of our members sees something interesting in the knitting field PLEASE get it to Marie for the newsletter.

Karen brought up the fact that we did not have a project for our May meeting. It was decided to have our "2nd Annual Yarn/Books/Mags Auction" at the May meeting. Karen's husband had kindly offered to be our Auctioneer again. Before the meeting bring any yarn that you want to sell in a plastic bag with your first and last name in magic marker on the outside of the bag and also the minimum amount that you need for it. If that yarn sells you get the money-not the guild. If you have duplicate knitting books you want to sell just put your name again on the outside of the book with the minimum amount to need for that book. Last year we had groups of old "Work Basket" mags that were put up for sale. We had so much fun last year!!

Karen announced there are several Fiber Fairs coming up in April:
Stevenson County Fiber Fair and Tall Grass Farm. More info at our Web site.

Helga announced that the new members' coffee will be held on April 15th (Sunday) from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Panera Bread in Crystal Lake.
This is for new members' that have been with our Guild for less than 6 months. Invitations will go out to these new members.

A survey was handed out to all our members present tonight (40 total) to see how many of them would be interested in another knitting retreat this year. The last count I saw was 25 of the ladies said they would be very interested in attending a retreat. We are trying to hold it a little earlier in the year as the weather last year turned nasty. All 18 members that attended last year had such a good time though, despite the weather! Look for more info on the retreat in the near future.

Don't forget the Charity Knitting Meeting coming up this Tuesday, March 20th. It will be held at Panera Bread, in Fox River Grove, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Peggy will be bringing some patterns and extra yarn for our charity projects.

Tonight Bonnie taught the class on cables and the project of a cable purse, and Dawn did a demo on cables without a cable needle.

The business part of our meeting ended at 8:00 p.m. after our Show-N-Share time.
