by 2004 President Sherry D

December

Happy Holidays to All. A big thanks to Kathleen for organizing a great Holiday Celebration. There was great food and lots of raffles. A big thanks to Sunflower Samplings in Crystal Lake for their donation of bunches of patterns.

We had several Sunshine deliveries: Jane J. recuperating from knee surgery, Pat S. had a broken wrist, Minnie had a broken wrist, and Ann S. had back surgery last week.

The charity items were given to Centegra by Rae in October. She said they were thrilled and surprised at all the donations. Thank you to all who participated.

We are teaching a girl scout troop in January to learn to knit. The dates are Jan. 10,24, and 31st (Mondays) at 3:30 pm. The 17th is a school holiday. It is at a school in Fox River Grove, directions will follow. If you are interested please reply to Sherry or the group email list, and we will put your name on the list. There are 15 girls that really want to learn to knit - so if you can help?

Thank you to all of you that volunteer to put your name in for the election. We had great participation this year.

Thanks to all the filled out the survey, we had many returned and will be talking about the results at the January Meeting. If you haven't filled yours out, please do and send it in.

Karen H. will be doing a January newsletter so if you have any info or articles please let her know.

January Meeting - We will be doing Friendship Scarves. Bring Needles and scissors and 1 ball of yarn approx. 80-100 yards. We will be knitting our own scarf the long way and sharing our yarns for each row. Bring any yarn approximately worsted weight. You can bring more than one yarn to use up your extras. The funky and furry are always great. It should be lots of fun.

Happy Holidays to All, I've enjoyed being President the past two years and look forward to serving on our new board. I hope 2005 finds you and yours health and happy.

March:

The meeting was held at the Cary Library on March 9 .

We had a long discussion regarding our meeting place for our regular meetings. The library has changed their policy and will only allow groups to be in the library until 8:30 p.m. It was discussed that over 50% of the members live in Cary/Crystal Lake area. It was decided to apply to hold our meetings at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, which is down the street from the library at the corner of Three Oaks Road and First Street. They have allowed us to have several workshops there. We will be holding the APRIL AND MAY MEETING AT THE LIBRARY. This should give us time to get approval and notify all members. It was suggested to give a donation to the church for the use of their building and was agreed upon.

Bonnie Drew will send the newsletter by month end. Also announced a new outing for the group. Tuesday, March 30th at Christophers in Crystal Lake at 7 p.m., Knit and Wine!!!! For $15.00 you get an appetizer and two glasses of wine and can sit and knit. The owner is a fellow knitter and is really excited to offer us this opportunity. Call Bonnie or email to sign up there are still a few spots available.

Rae Roane gave a talk on the various charities we might support. The guild decided to help one charity and felt that it should be from McHenry County. It was narrowed down to three, Centegra Hospital, Pet Cozies for no kill shelters, and lap robes for nursing homes. It was voted overwhelmingly for Centegra Hospital. So for 2004 please knit, baby hats, premie hats or baby blankets.

Dawn led instruction on lace knitting.

There were no beginners to learn decreases.

The next meeting instruction will be

Beginners: Casting on and off

We have been contacted by a college student in Ohio that has asked for 8" knitted or crocheted squares for Charity. Please bring the completed squares to the meeting at Barnes and Noble this month. We need to mail them for her receipt before 3/6.

Dawn A mentioned she still had a few copies of InKnitters for the members who participated in the knitted felted slipper project.

Rae R led a discussion on possible Charity projects for 2004. Many wonderful ideas were suggested: premie hats, PADS, Ronald McDonald House toys, shelters for dog/cats. It was decided to discuss this in length at the next meeting. Anyone who would like to suggest a charity will be given an opportunity for a two minute speech that they would like us to knit for. It was decided that we would pick ONE charity for the year.

Many donations were given this year to PADS. A special thanks to Peggy S's mom and Evelyn M who donated a number of knitted items.
